New loan signing Tomy Dinning says he's determined to win himself a permanent contract with the Blues. The Wigan midfielder has moved to Town initially on a two-month loan.

Town got the new season off to a victorious start, coming from behind to beat Gillingham 2-1 at Portman Road. The visitors went in front through Paul Smith but the Blues struck back via Richard Naylor and Dean Bowditch.

A bumper crowd of 24,644 saw Town beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the Dale Roberts testimonial. The Blues went ahead through Shefki Kuqi but Laurent Robert's header levelled before half-time. Sub Pablo Couñago netted the winner in the 72nd minute.

Town boss Joe Royle was particularly pleased with his side's attacking guile after the 5-1 destruction of Oxford at the Kassam Stadium. Strikers Darren Bent and Pablo Couñago both scored with Tommy Miller (2) and Jim Magilton also netting.
